Current positions open
Field Technician/Environmental Scientist
We are the leading provider of services relating to Water and Land Management. We have an opportunity for a full time Field Technician/Environmental Scientist based in Christchurch, with regular travel across the region.
Tasks are varied and include aquifer testing, flow measurements, water quality sampling, use and installation of various sensors and telemetry equipment, and associated data analysis and reporting.
Once trained, you will eventually manage aspects of Aqualinc’s field programme and be responsible for project delivery from start to finish (project planning, field work and field work management, data analysis and report writing).
The Role
You will be involved with both field and office-based work: you will work hands-on, installing and maintaining monitoring systems on-farm, as well as other testing and monitoring, and associated written reporting.
You can work successfully as part of a team and autonomously and unsupervised in remote locations.
A key part of your role is regular personal contact with farmers/landowners and other clients. An understanding of farm systems and practices would be beneficial.
In this role you will be responsible for:
-
Hydrological Field work such as aquifer testing, open channel flow measurements, well step tests etc.
-
Installing telemetry systems (including field sensors).
-
Routine maintenance and troubleshooting breakdowns of field systems.
-
Working with Aqualinc’s systems and tools to analyse and report on gathered field data.
-
Analysing and reporting on field data to support regulatory and investigatory project work.
-
Providing technical support to other staff.
We will provide you with a comprehensive support network and training to ensure your ongoing success in this role and as part of our team.
Successful applicants will have:
You will have good practical skills and an ability and desire to learn new things. Ideally you will have experience with collecting and analysing hydrological data via data acquisition systems, and have experience with database management, though this is not essential.
You are confident working in the outdoors unsupervised; you have a reasonable level of physical fitness and a strong health and safety focus.
Ideally you will have an understanding of farm systems and practices.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with farmers and Aqualinc staff. To excel in this fast-paced environment you will also have excellent organisational and time-management skills.
You will receive full and detailed training.
We provide a work environment that encourages the personal and professional development. There are many opportunities for career advancement (or change) for all staff.
You must have a full (clean) driver’s license.
You should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
If you are an enthusiastic, proactive self-starter and team player with a focus on exceptional customer service and support, this could be just the role you have been looking for.
